how the window works

Post by dave2878 »

drivers side window is not opening when i roll down mechanism . took card of and noticed it had fell apart due to corrosion , the mechanism is fine its just the rubber that sits on the window and the bracket on the regulator ,
i was looking for replacement but i cant see one so i was going to try and make something up.
my question is , when you roll the window down does the window just fall with the regulator or does the regulator actually pull the window down , ?

Hi Dave, don't know the VW specifically but on most vehicles the channel part of the winder mechanism is a tight push fit on the glass bottom with a flat rubber strip sandwiched between the two. I seem to remember using petrol on the rubber to make it slippery so it could be "persuaded" on with a soft hammer
