Multiple Keys

Post by peteinnit »

Hi all,
I seem to have a different key for every door to my van and was wondering if there's a way to get them all to work with one key, or whether I can get multiple new locks with the same key? The one's I've seen all seem to be one lock per key. Gets a bit annoying walking around with so many keys in my pocket.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi, as long as all your locks are the same pattern then you should be able to strip and re-tumble them all to suit one key. Best to make all the doors match the existing ignition key as this is the most awkward 'lock' to strip. There are a few excellent posts on here about stripping and repairing the various door locks.

Hope this helps

If your locks are all getting on in years, best bet is to replace two fromt door handles (around £14 each) then retumble one to match the other then retumble rest to match. Thats how I did mine and you can't get in mine with another T25 key now. The alternative is a complete lock set but thats a couple of hundred quid.

What CovKid said, but be wary some replacement locks are a different key profile so you can't just re tumble the locks as key style is different

Remove the barrels within each handle. Pull the wafers out and refit to suit your ignition key.

Hi,
Have finally taken some locks apart and all seems pretty straight forward, but now I'm wondering where I can get new tumblers to match the existing ones. I have 1 key that fits 1 door and the tailgate, so the idea is to retumble the remaining doors and petrol cap to match, so one key for all doors and separate ignition key. I have noticed a code letter on each of the tumblers, 'a' through to 'd', does anyone know if these are available and from where? Or do I need all new tumblers? I did see a post on here where someone had photo'd a bag of new tumblers, but can't find it again!

Many thanks,
Peter

You don't need new tumblers, just re-arrange the wafers within your exiting ones. I have a bag of wafers you can use and return what you don't need. Send me a PM with your address and I'll post them to you.
