Sliding door, just fell off.

Post by limbo »

Luckily it was on the drive, could have been very costly had it been 100 miles from home.

One of the bearing parts was completely shagged - rusted and gave way - the wheel bearing part of the spring mechanism that keeps the door in place along the runner on the shelf attached to the rear panel. I've had a look on the few places I know that sell parts online (JK and Ebay) and didn't find much (well one on Ebay that looked in terrible condition for the £55+delivery price tag)... I'm guessing I need the whole hinge as a replacement - although the rest of it looks does look fine...

Anyone think of a good parts dealer or breaker who might be able to sell me one? Anywhere in UK, Derbyshire would be great so I can pick it up/meet them

Jeez, that price

Check out club 80-90 member billy739 ( HERE ) he breaks T25's for spares.

There is also another member called summat like VW-North-West who is a breaker, but right now I can't find his details (because I will have got his name wrong :? ) Anyone got his details?

Surely all you need is the bearing kit? That is all that I needed when mine fell off. £24 +p&p

WHS ^^^ common fault

in fact anybody who doesn't have a spare roller and is going on holiday worth getting one, image how hard it would be to camp with no sliding door, the brickwerks one is one piece not two parts like the original so a worth while upgrade I Think

I have a severely damaged door - mine came off going round a boatyard and got knocked about quite a bit. Good job my van is just a workhorse and not needed to be pretty!

Amusingly my door fell off when I was at the recycling yard/tip, they are remarkably heavy and awkward to deal with. As said, I just replaced the bearings/rollers with a kit.

Thanks folks. After further inspection there was a lot of wear on the other two 'guide' rollers, one cracked and one rusted shut + I think the ushaped part has warped a little as well. Found a good deal for 75 inc. postage on a part that looks barely used.

Got some other bits and bobs I need too so will contact the folk posted above for it.

:)

I'd rather pay £24 than £75 !!! £50 goes a long way elsewhere.

Yeah

but like I say there was a fair bit of warping on the u-shaped arm and the joints etc looked like they were on their way out... I'm still tempted to get spare barings anyway and use this for spring/nut and housing parts
