Engine cover/lid insulation and sound deadening

Appreciate I'm opening up an old thread but hopefully someone will pick this up.  When I got my bus the sound deadening stuff in/on the engine hatch/ lid was long gone so the options posted here look good.  One problem is that, along with the insulation it looks like the wire retainers were also chucked.  If I can't buy these I can probably bodge them up easy enough, but not sure what I need to bodge.  Does anyone know if they're available anywhere or if not would someone be able to post a picture/ description of one so I can make them up?  Also, how do they clip into the lid?  Can't see any obvious holes so do they just sit in there?  I've got a metal lid by the way...

If I remember correctly when I repaired mine last as one corner was sagging, I used an high impact adhesive which appears to have held it in place so far even with the obvious heat below it, however the blanket was intact so if it has started to separate this may not work.

Thanks Tony, I don't have anything at all at the moment so sagging is not an issue!  Will try adhesive as a last resort but would prefer the original solution (or something like it) if possible.

Hi Ian, if your after the original wire pieces, might be worth contacting Mick at NWVW (07968 367046) as he has tons of spares.

From what I remember they literally just sit in there and you just adjust accordingly to the shape in the picture.

I used stainless steel tig welding rods . Had a few knocking around at work

I replaced mine with NoiseKiller. The retainers are a bit like a metal coat-hanger which just tuck in. Attached a Blazecut extinguisher with some cable ties at the same time

Thanks All, really useful.  I might give Mick a call and see if he has any originals if not I'll see what I can find lying around in the tip that is my garage!  Bamboo Billy, seriously considering a Blazecut too - which length is that one you've installed? 2m or 3m?.  Read too many horror stories about engine fires....

Bamboo Billy, when you say the retainers are like a wire coathanger, are they completely bendable and stay in whatever shape you've bent them to (like a coathanger) or are they 'springy' and try to return to that circular shape?

Hi Ian, they are fairly springy from memory, but the lining I got from NoiseKiller has an adhesive back so there’s no real pressure on them now anyway.

I just recived my BlazeCut to mount on my steel lid, and it’s gonna look pretty much like yours.
Anyhow alittle doubt, the zip ties on the top and bottom are only attached to the metal wires that’s holding the insulation?

Correct but I’d also put ties around the middle bar of the lid itself. 6 cable ties in total.
