quality parts manufacturers

Post by Hacksawbob »

So we buy quite a lot of bits from GSF eurocarparts and the like. Quality can be OE or pi$$ poor. Mr Baxter tends to sell the better quality ones but its not always convienient to mail order from him if your in a hurry. So Could we compile a list of which manufactures to ask for or avoid when ordering?
I'll make a start

supplier----------------Parts-------------------------Quality Manufacturer----------------poor quality manufacturer
EURO CARPARTS----Ball joints tie rod ends------Lemforder-----------------------------Hi-Torq
GSF-------------------Brake slave cylinders--------FAG

Brake pads ?
Brake drums?
Coil Springs?
Dampers?

Get the idea? Please post if you have any to add and I'll wiki it when it has a few entries

Anything branded "Vetech" is to be avoided.
Anything with "7RL" after the part number is to be avoided.
Febi - good and bad, some really good, some so so.
Meyle - again, some is excellent, some is dubious
JP Group - they make parts a lot of people don't. As the others, some European, some from the far east. It seems they are trying of late and the quality is improving all the time.

fairly safe to say you can trust anything from....
Beru.
Bosch.
Lemforder.
Elring.
Victor Reinz.
Pagid.
Jurid.
Mintex.
ATE.
FTE.
Sachs.
LUK.
FAG.
INA.

Continued as my computer had a spaz.

TRW.
Bendix.
SKF
Spidan
GKN
Loebro
Bilstein.
Boge.
Vemo (Reboxer same as Febi/Meyle but decent stuff, GSF starting to sell it now too)
Suplex.

We're also testing out some stuff coming from Italy, waterpumps, ball joints etc but these things take a little while show faults but all these reboxing firms have to buy their wares from somewhere and some of the radelli stuff we have had has been EXACTLY the same as the Febi items.

we have recently been discussing this at work. the problem arrises when re box companies change their sourses without us knowing, so buying what you have trusted for years has just turned in to a pile of "pooh". if it happens without you knowing then you get caught out, simple as. with the pressure on in industry to cost cut only worse its going to get.

we have recently had warranty issues also where the suppliers have refused to cover the part saying that their tests have found no fault even though we know damn well the part was faulty.

always buy the best you can afford.

Re ECP taken from the following website,
http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/lofivers ... 14743.html
anything that the part number ends in a 1, is patent, 0,5,6,8 are a good quality, sometimes genuine, with the part numbers ground off, but u cant be 100% on the make, as we do change suppliers

Before I start I have not been paid by Mr Baxter, I have in the past brought from different companies including GSF, Europart, JustKampers to name a few, and then someone pointed me in the direction of Brickwerks and I have never looked back. The parts are quality, fit first time and if you do have any problems you know you will get someone who gives a "pooh" !
I replaced my front ball joints from brickwerks for the MOT, when I collected the van the MOT tester wanted to know where I got the ball joints from because he knew they where quality and original spec and wanted some for another T25, can't say much more than that really !
Have a nice day !

At the risk of turning this thread into the Brickwerks appreciation society, I too can vouch for the products and service. Head and shoulders above the rest in my humble opinion - refuse to use JK now given numerous serious quality issues and poor service when I complained...

you'll find that you're joining a growing number of "fed up" ex customers.
One day JK might actually listen to these complaints and react to their customers dis-satisfaction
