ARB Bushes Question

Post by maxstu »

Just a quickie. Can ARB bushes be replaced without raising vehicle off the ground? Any difficulties with PAS rack version?
Thank

I'd say so, though it will be easier, even jacking up one side as you need to gain some leverage.

No idea about the PAS setup though..

Thanks to both :ok
I mixed up two questions! PAS reference should have gone on another post lm considering for steering rack bushes.
Thanks for video link. Good ol James Aker. Precise and clear videos every time.
Ive change ARB bushes before. But usual at another address (Maxine's home) with workshop facilities and trolley. Im stuck in Margate with vehicle on a highly cambered road. So no jacking vehicle.
Reckon l can do one a time with wheels on road

They can be done without jacking it up, even easier to just take it off till you can do it properly.

Hi Mike,

Hope you are well...hoping to visit at Dover again with the old man next time
Thanks for reply. Will give it some thought. True. Have known some to drive without ARB. Perhaps it was you?

I'm just in the process of replacing the ARB bushes and drop link bushes on my Syncro and I was wondering how the van would drive without the ARB fitted. Years ago when I was into offroading with Suzuki SJ's most people would remove the ARB for better articulation and it wouldn't effect the road handling. Does anyone know if the case would be the same for a T25? I'm not looking to remove mine as I've just payed £150 to replace the bushes and a link arm, I was just curious.

Hi Ben,
Ive followed Mike above on unmade roads at Dover. He keeps a lick of speed  Didnt notice any untoward handling from his camper running in front of mine.
Then again a tin top will mostly feel more secure.
Limited knowledge of the dark art of syncro's suspension set up though

Ha, some of it has been tarmacked now Stu, you won't loose your dash top, but yes it helps stop cocking a rear wheel.

That's interesting to know. Maybe I'll remove mine at some point and see what the difference is.

Thanks chaps

Answer is....yes you can.
Issues? Retaining nuts and bolts both really rusty. And working on my back with feet towards front of van didnt help. Mostly done by feel for top bolt. This is where removing wheel really helps. And Plusgas.
Both bushes easy to replace with a slip of grease.
Getting bush clamp to align with bolt hole on N/S needed use of molegrips to hold in place as l connected nut to bolt.
O/S Slipped on and off with ease. Perhaps something to do with distribution of weight. So do it on flat ground.
It took:
Wire brush
Grease
Plusgas
Two 13mm sockets and 13mm spanner
Molegrips
Piece of cardboard to lay on and a rag
