Heavy camper, rear sags when loaded...spacers?

Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

Heavy camper, rear sags when loaded...spacers?

Post by itchyfeet »

I have heard people making spacers out of nylon to place above the top rear spring holder.

I have managed to fit 2x 15mm spacers giving a 30mm lift, does anybody think that's too much?

The spring central locator at the top protruded through the spring about as much as the lower one and i can't see it ever coming off as I had a job getting it on.

You can buy a lift kit 'off the shelf' that does exactly what you've done albeit using metal spacers from vwspacers.com so I can't see there being any issue whatsoever. As a side note, the lower locating lugs on the arms had rusted and completely detached on mine, obviously been like it for sometime given the state of them when I noticed, springs didn't fall out or shift position much despite numerous speed bumps and trips on rough roads and sites for work. Yes I have replaced the plates/mounts now!

Nothing beats a home grown solution and soaking wet has to be worth it given the cost of the kits.

You nutter! :ok
I was in the pub watching lifeboat getting launched on Margate beach. That's enough excitement for me :trunk

Indeed, next up is replacement lower trailing arm protectors, mine, as probably 99% are shagged, Brickwerks were doing rubber ones but they will never last and I see they are now doing aftermarket moulded but 17 quid each + post, who knows what they are made of and how long they will last, and I need four.

Looks like 3mm Polyurethane sheet to me so going to order some and have a go.
