WBX teaser

Post by Mr Bean »

Why would I feel the need to make one of these for my WBX:

Fair cop Mocki It's to replace this:

Until I could buy a new one. But now I have fitted it I realize that a breakdown engineer is more likely to have/get a couple of bits of hose than a possibly rocking horse poo item from the eighties. Note where I cut it short so as to find a sound area to clamp it with a jubilee clip to get me home.

You may notice that I have fitted the bleed rail spigot on the stainless steel unit so that it can be arranged vertically to bleed air from the highest area (roof) of the cylinder head rather than from the center line of the cylinder head spigot as is the case on the rubber molding which could cause a hot spot.
I may be being pedantic but I say this as my recently demised engine managed to eject the spark plug and some molten aluminium from this same positioned nearside rear cylinder head when it gave up the ghost.

Yes I guess it could seem like over engineering but for me it is quicker/easier (and much more fun) to make parts from readily available materials than to hunt around for items of albeit original but probable rarity.

Incidentally and bearing in mind the way that my previous engine died (previous post), I have to wonder whether that circa 25mm cylinder head spigot forms part of the cooling system rather than a just a bleed route in an earlier/different iteration of the WBX.
