Clutch line to slave cylinder.

Hi all,

Quick question ... I’m trying to change the slave cylinder ( 1986, 1.9 dg ) and the hydraulic line into it is not coming off. I was wondering if I cut the white plastic pipe just before the cylinder, got a new Union to connect it to the new cylinder , will I still have enough length on the pipe to reach ? It would involve cutting about 1.5 cm off at most but I’ve no idea how tight the lengths are ?

I had the same problem I bought a new pipe from Brickwerks to save any bother

Yeah, that was my original idea but then looking underneath this afternoon at the connection between the plastic pipe and the pip running under the van to the front, that looks rusted to hell so not sure I'm going to be able to get that off either. That and I don't think I have the right sized spanner for it.. Ive got a 12mm flare spanner but it looks bigger than that,

Just had another look, seems to be 14mm but its stuck solid and I'm worried I'll trash the pipe trying to get it off as it's flexing the pipes when I try to shift it

Wirebrush, plus-gas, time and patience

Buy the tool you need if you have to.

I damaged the flexible pipe when taking the gearbox out. Proper inspection showed that the pipe to the front was indeed corroded and so I replaced THE whole lot using the Brickwerks kit. That then got me into dropping the fuel tank. You don't want to have to do that if you can avoid it.

I seem to remember 13mm for some reason. I know that I had to use a blowlamp on some junctions to undo them. Hairy job with dripping flammable brake fluid and underseal around. :shock:

As already mentioned above i brushed and plus gassed the union's the night before. I still had to take mine off with the pipe attached and undo it in a vice.

How did you manage to get the union between the white pipe and the main pipe off without waggling the pipes all over the place ? I've dumped a load of wd40 on them for the night so will have a go in the morning but I'm concerned I'm going to knacker the main pipes by bending them out of shape when I try to get the union undone.

I can't remember to be honest (it was a couple of years ago) it just came off. I'd ditch the wd40 and use plus gas and an old toothbrush.

So in then end - I've got a bit of 6mm copper pipe from the local garage with a flared end and bought the replacement hose from brickwerks along with a through connecter and brake pipe connection.. now I've just got to chop a lump off the existing pipe behind the seized union.
