Oil with high ZDDP content?
I recently saw a link to some oil with a good ZDDP content and lower cost than oil + camshield. Thought I saved it but I can't find it now. Any suggestions?

Well at least it's VW related and not general chat.
I went on to morris oils website and no mention of the 2000ppm, knowing some websites have duff info I have emails to check.

Oh dear, looks like they've had some web designer types in.............. all optimised for mobile and an absence of technical information with some naff videos on Youtube. In addition to that there is a non compliant contact form
I'll have a whisper in the ear of my supplier, he has good contacts within Morris
Next time you want to know about ZDDP just follow this Some guy called itchyfeet created a post with useful links to help everybody find things, and then put a link to it in his signature Second post

oh dear...
Good Morning Paul,
Thank you for your enquiry,
Our Golden Film 15W-50 has a minimum of 600ppm Zinc content.
However we can ensure you that all our Lubricants are formulated and blended to offer the desired level of protection for their required application,
Hope this has helped,
Kind Regards,

Re: Oil with high ZDDP content?
oh dear......
If the answer provided is correct they have seem to have reformulated.... a quote from a previous screen grab below
I think you should go back and get confirmation. Use letters after your name if you think it will help You may want to ask for clarification of the difference between "zinc content" and "zinc as ZDDP" I have a decent idea, but the two numeric answers you have do not correlate to the difference, so the response you got this morning is technically inaccurate.

adding ZDDP is expensive and this looks like it has enough although I'm have read the way the ppm is quoted can be misleading so Zinc as ZDDP is that the same?
it does not say mineral I can see I think it is.
The trouble with semi synth ( second link) is it can make tappets noisy.

Re: Oil with high ZDDP content?
I'm no chemist. but I remeber ZDDP and Zinc being different now, why can't they just make it more simple
somebody else sent me a statement which I have taken a small extract and I think it sums it up nicely
And Morris Oils said...
Fuchs Titan Superma does not say it's for classic vehicles so my thinking is it could be lower becuse it could be used in cars with Catalytic converters, where Morris is stated for classics so should be higher.

In reality, most classic specific oils will have somewhere between 900-1200ppm ZDDP and that will be plenty for pretty much everyone (despite what some think)

Re: Oil with high ZDDP content?
I'm expecting the answer to be arising from the difference between the molecular weight of ZDDP and that of zinc itself. The molecular weight of ZDDP is about 11 times that of zinc from the references I looked at.
Easier / simpler to talk about the ZDDP content as PPM, rather than the zinc contained within the ZDDP. It's a bigger number too which suits the marketing types, but a technical person may want to understand the actual zinc content as other additives may also serve a similar purpose.
Your first quote is I assume from Marco (bit early for him) and I would go along with that. On the second statement, that's just meaningless spin and woffle, if you can be bothered to ask the question, then you are clearly wanting a proper answer otherwise why select their product over any other manufacturer.
My mod above was just a reorganisation, putting the quote below my final comment and suggestion.
By the way, they have reformulated. The technical data sheet now shows a viscosity index of 147 when it was 145 before.
[sarcasm on, to be read in a Monty Python voice]High... ooh that's really technical. Back when I used to do the high jump at least they used to measure it, somtimes in feet 'n inches, sometimes in cm, not just say, oooh that bar was high, much higher that pretty high but not quite really high:D [/sarcasm off]
Go on, make his day with another technical question

Re: Oil with high ZDDP content?
Did you follow up with the Morris technical guys ?
I had a word with my supplier yesterday, and was given a few tips on some of the characters within the technical desk. They suggested I should give them a call
