Water Pump

Post by steveo9007 »

Just been looking on the wiki and specifically for any issues replacing the coolant water pump on a diesel engine (1.7d KY), couldn't find anything nor from a search on the web. It looks pretty straight forward to remove just wondering if there is anything i should be looking out for, i have the new pump ready to go, so does the mating surface from pump to engine block need a gasket or does the rubber seal that it came with sufficient enough, i am also renewing the thermostat whilst the pump is off and again does this need a gasket or just the rubber seal. I have also done the search on here and all i get is the petrol engine stuff. Any advise would be appreciated Thanks. :ok

No gasket required.

Again no gasket, but if the housing is plastic it's advisable to fit a new housing as they do bend with the heat and sometimes even a new o-ring won't seal.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

Yeah definitely no seal on pump or thermostat just the O ring on each. Don't over tighten the 3 pump bolts, one of mine is a bit doggy from either me or someone else tighten to much, doesn't leak though.ive never changed the thermostat housing, sure mine is plastic.
Worth checking the new thermostat to make sure it works ok. And don't over tension the belt as it lead to pump bearing failure quicker.
Mine is aaz but diesels all the same.
