Gearbox code/suitable replacement gearbox

Post by Stirls »

Hi I'm considering fitting a replacement gearbox as mine is sounding a bit worn the gear change is fine and doesn't jump out of gear, its done 170,000 miles, noisey in first and second but not as bad in the other gears and some backlash,
the code is 'ASS24 089' it's a 1600td, what would be a suitable replacement for that code?

Or I could have it rebuilt but its finding someone trusted to do a good job in my area east London/Essex.
Thanks Stirl.

3H is comparable, and ABN is the same as a 3H but with petrol bellhousing and input shaft, but they can be swapped over. If you can get the box out I can have it collected, if you bring the van to Wales we can deal with it all and put you back on a train to London, Cogbox is your local VW gearbox specialist.

Elite VW could take it out and send it to me.

Thanks Aidan, I'm hoping to get it sorted in the winter and probably take the box out myself, but at least I have a couple of builders to choose from now thanks.
