Brake pipe flares?

Post by jas915 »

Hi got a set of brake pipes from Heritage as need to change a few and they do a full van kit already flared with the ends on that just needs bending.
However im not sure the quality of the flaring, not an expert but wondering what your thoughts are, they all seem very off center, does this matter? . I dont want to spend the time bending them and fitting to find they leak.

Look like nothing that I have seen before. ( no pics or link!)
Posted that and pics appeared!!!!
Look very rough and ready to me, I always clean the bore afterwards. Look like they have been cut with a hacksaw rather than a cutter. Not made with care in my opinion.

Not the tidiest I agree however it shouldn't cause any issues and should clamp down nicely.
It looks like it's been done with a flare tool for SAE 3/16" rather than the DIN 4.75mm flare used on German stuff, the bottom side should be flat.
Here's a good link to explain better than I can.

if you're not wanting to bend them then we do have a lot of pre-bent pipes ready to fit like so.

Saves us a lot of time in the workshop as we can just go to the shelf and pick up what we want.

They can be a bit of a pain to post!

They are in theis category here.

I appreciate that they won't be everyones cup of tea but if you only need one or two and you don't have access to all the tools then you can achieve a factory look with little effort.

Thanks for that Simon, I have in the past used your pre bent lines and I agree they are great and quick to fit.however I need to replace the front to back pipe along with most of the front ones so will be costly to get the pre bent ones.hence why I brought these.
Good to hear they should tighten up ok.
Maybe I will add the pre bent ones to my growing list for my next brickwerks order

Yeah, I know when I listed these that there would be limited appeal for them.

The prices are calculated on the amount of bends, there are quite a lot of bends hence the price.
