Gears/brakes issue
Yet another help me post! Taken the van out for a shakedown prior to a big trip, already had one binding caliper replaced, but still sounds like the other is still sticking, constant shrill noise stopping when brakes touched. After 2 hrs motorway the brakes need to be pumped to work, mildly alarming when pedal goes to floor and nothing happens, I'm assuming boiled fluid. Replace other caliper. Other problem is not being able to get into any gear, sometimes, 4th easiest, but foot to floor on clutch but like nothing is happening is the clutch had it too or are they linked? Can select gears with engine off.

Have you checked the brake fluid reservoir?
The clutch/brakes share the same one - the take off for the clutch is above the brakes so if the level is low clutch goes first before the brakes are affected.

Spot on. Turns out to be leaking clutch slave, fluid now below level of hose so no clutch. Just had a new can of brake fluid delivered but didn't bother to pick it up so going to get towed home

Re: Gears/brakes issue
New slave and a bleed seems to have sorted the gear issue, still tricky to get it in gear when hot, easy cold, so not sure why that would be. Will get mechanic to change transmission fluid and look at the linkage next time.
had them put a new caliper on the other side too so the brakes are both new at the front now and no more binding on either side any more.
Was expecting the master cylinder to be shot but not had any further brake problems so going to return the master cylinder to Euro car parts that I picked up in case during their 50% sale
