Yet another oil thread....

Post by Ciaraneng »

As with many WBX needs, the choice of suitable oils (and motorfactors knowledge of same) is limited here in Ireland. The best options I have found are Millers oils. I am running in using Halfords 20W50 Classic but want to select my 'oil for life'. Based on some advice from Marco Mansi, I'd like to go with something containing ZDDP. I am looking at either their Classic Sport 20w60 at €42 (GBP 37.60) per 5 litres or their Classic Pistoneez 20w50 at €30 (GBP 26.90) per 5 litres. Prices include shipping for 15-20 litres. Is there any reason to spend the extra €12/ 5 litres if my oil pressure at 80 deg and 2000 rpm is just over 2 Bar with 20W50 oil?

Irish forum members: Are there any other oils you would recommend?

Thanks, Ciaran

This is the thread / page you need to read

http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... &p=8214549

ajsimmo recommends a Fuchs Titan 15/50, and I think itchyfeet went this route and liked it

I use Millers in other vehicles, including the nanodrive 10W60, but that's a bit extreme for a WBX, hence the suggestion for the CFS 15W60

Make your choice and do the oil pressure tests to see what the effect is

Thanks Carrera. I have read that thread before. Unfortunately the 15W50 Fuchs is not available in Ireland as far as I can tell.

Virtually the same delivery cost £10.58 for 5 or 10 litres

Thanks for the link Carrera but apart from the delay in shipping across the Irish sea, at over €56 for 5 litres delivered it's nearly twice the price of Millers Classic Pistoneez 20w50 and a third more expensive than their Classic Sport 20w60 so I'd need a pretty compelling reason to go for it over Millers.

£57 for 2 x 5 litres, so about the same price as the cheaper Millers product.

Speed of delivery and convenience is of course another matter

I use millers 20w50. Had the engine replaced a couple of years ago by the vw engine company in Catford (great service) and that’s what they use / recommend.

Doh! Thanks for your persistence Carrera. I selected a quantity of 2 thinking I was getting 2x5 litres without realising it was adding a total of 20 litres to my order. At £57.50 for 10 litres or £100.60 for 20 litres it is good value! Having said that, I think I'd prefer to get the ZDDP additive so I might give the Millers 20W50 a go. Thanks again. Ciaran.

I've just ordered 5 litres of their Classic Pistoneez 20W50 and will do a pressure test when I change it out. :ok
