Machine gun tappets (or hydraulic lifters or whatever)

Post by Michael4 »

I have one or two tappets/hydraulic lifters that drain down in about a week and makes a tremendous din for the first 10 miles or so.

My question is, if I can live with the racket does it actually do much damage? I assume wear is somewhat accelerated?

Of course I could drive the van more often...

It will cause damage over time.
Have you tried to adjust them?

Tried using 15w/50 mineral oil
Changing it twice a year or every 3500miles
