Hello Sarran,

Glad to hear the skiing went well.

I am going to fit am Engle 100 cam so I need new followers as new cam. The cam is slightly tweaked, only midly mind you.

Think the solid lifters and stronger pushrods may be needed with the cam?

Cheers. Christian.

Hello,

What is the part no of the cam you have ordered from Engle.. :?:

Are you aware that the internals of a CT are not T1 or Beetle.. :?:

Though the pistons-barrels-heads are...

Have you opened the crankcase yet.. :?:

Engle W100 Camshaft >

Description:

Engle 100 camshaft.

Designed for use with a 3 bolt cam wheel and a pre 1971 oil pump. Well suited to Type 2's and engines up to 1776cc.

This camshaft is supplied without a drive wheel which must be purchased separately, you should always fit new cam followers with a new camshaft

You should always follow the break in instructions supplied with camshafts to ensure long life of the camshaft and followers

Quality:

Good Quality

Metrics:

Valve Lift: 0.420 inches
1.1:1 rockers
Duration: 276 degrees

Weight:

1.3494 kg

For Vehicles

Beetle 1960-1979 | Beetle Cabrio 1960-1979 | Karmann Ghia 1960-1974 | T2 Bay 1968-1979 | T2 Split 1960-1967 | Type 3 1962-1973

Here are the specs. If it fits is another matter. [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES].

The pre 1971 oil pump will fit.

From the blurb the cam gives got low end rev torque which I thought would be good for a bus.

Have to change the pushrods....the specs says the cam doesn't need double springs on head, works with 1:1 ratio rockers....if it fits. [WINKING FACE]

Hello,

Like I said, a CT is not a T 1 or 2 crankcase.

None of the above parts fit...

Have you split the case.. :?:

Uprate your CT top end to get at least 60 bhp,....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZLeYcpMFps" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you are going to open the case, you will need an all new crank and cam bearing set.

I am currently considering a 'stroker' engine, with workshop pics and video this autumn..

But first..the twin solexes.. 8)

Hi Sarran,

Yes, I had a 1776cc barrel kit. Its a Mahle one. Your video was the inspiration to actually get on with it and build the engine.

I also followed your lead and bought a set of AA dual port 1600 heads. Great tip, and many thanks for that. [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES].

As far as the cam shaft....I just tried it in the case.

Orignal cam.

Here is the cam number.

New cam. It does fit in the bearings and spin freely.

Image

The only bit I am slightly concerned about is the valve follower, lifter housing. The new cam shaft has a more aggresive cam. It only just clears the end of the valve follower casing.

Image

I am taking the engine case to the machine shop on Monday to get the case bored to fit the larger barrels. Might ask if they can take a bit off the valve housing....just in case?

Will have to play with pushrod length to set up valve and rocker geometry. But thats another story.

Good luck with your project. Planning to run dual weber 34 carbs....once I get that far.

Hello,

OK, you did have me wondering for a bit there.. :?

3 things

1 You will have to get the cam follower tubes reduced, ask your machinist.
2 Make sure that the heads have been machined to take the barrel.
3 Check the endfloat on the cam, you may need a different nr 1 bearing.

Keep putting photos up.. :)

How do.

Yeah...the heads have been cut for the bigger tubes. They were pre cut when I ordered them.

Will speak to the machine shop tomorrow about taking a bit off the follower housing.

As the cam is tweaked going to get double thrust bearings on the cam shaft. Seems that a safer option.

Thanks for the advice. Will let you know how it all goes once I get the case back. Should be a couple of weeks. [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES].

Cheers, Christian.
