Quick question about YOUR rad fan ....

Post by Mocki »

which way does it move the air
Early van ( 82) ex DF , single speed two pin flat rubber plug onto actual fan motor , had to replace the wiring to solve a intermittent non fanning fault , did away with the plug also .
Now there is a arrow on the fan motor denoting the direction of spinningness, and I noted which way the connections were and replicated , and indeed the fan does spin the way of the arrow , BUT it’s blowing onto the rad and out of the front of the van .... so against the direction of travel . This struck me as odd , and whilst the fan should never need to come on when you are moving , it means if it does ( those with chicken switches can make this happen ) to my mind it will make the air stall if the fan is producing the same amount of wind as the speed of forward travel ??

I’m going to check my late system van today IF I can get it come on in this ambient temp ...

just popped out and tried the stage 2 chicken switch on my late van and it's moving air in from front towards rear of vehicle as you would expect.

Thanks, saves me messing with mine !
Yes I know I could bridge it , but I don’t need to now!

I need someone with a early single speed fan to respond .
Surely this one is wrong !

All vans I've ever had the fan come on on (and it's a few) suck in at the front and blow backwards so you can feel the heat coming out the wheel arches. Never seen one blow the other way...but there's always one ;-)
