A big screwdriver or prybar to lever the clutch slave cylinder bracket out of the way. Same for refitting.

But first, check the wire going to the starter solenoid, you may not be getting enough bolts in so it just clicks, but does not travel all the way. So check that trigger wire for corrosion. Mine was corroded over at least a foot, so replaced the whole cable.

Water ingress into the solenoid will oxidise the terminals and prevent the starter getting the main current

The problem was the short thick lead from the solenoid into the starter body, it had just rotted, the casing of the whole starter motor was heavily rusted no idea how it could get so rusty so high up on the engine.

Rust is similar to bacteria which just love warmth and dampness like when you are thrashing along a rain soaked highway. Then to really get it going you might park it still hot and wet in a garage.
To say nothing about Galvanic corrosion also called bimetallic corrosion or the beastly black wire corrosion in the world of radio controlled models
