It's not ideal to use old lifters, but they'll do a lot better on a new cam than on a wrong used one. If you're swapping gears then I'd say use your existing cam. I suggested the new one as an alternative to a swapped gear frankencam. Have the old lifters been kept in order?

need to get a better picture of the rod bolt nuts, I think non stretch bolts have what looks like a washer as part of the nut I assume to reduce friction
Andrew can you confirm?
this would tell you if you can release them to check without the cost of new bolts.

Gear ring is -5
On shaft read 070. Then further along 7. Opposite side to 7 is a five
What do the four mumbers in left corner denote?

True. But lm one year from 60. The stand is an affordable luxury and well worth it. Rotating engine through 360 makes spannering a pleasure. By coincidence the table is perfect height and width to accommodate engine when attached to stand. Just 5mm above table.
Table will end up as firewood shortly if my unemployed status continues into next winter

This came out of the sump. Nothing missing from crank l think? Pistons (Standard) and rings all good. Nothing missing from heads or valve train. Going back to carb. Will dig it out tomorrow. Hang in there while l add more.

Anyone recognise these mangled remains? Found in sump...

Now its been given a quick clean out. Cam and crank, despite two knackered teeth on gear ring to cam, run very smoothly

Checked all rings on all pistons. Will recheck in casecl missed something.
Furthermore all the liners are not damaged. Neither sides or skirts of pistons. Perhaps on a previous top end rebuild a ring may have snapped when removing liners?
Wish l had old carb here. Its a real mess.

ideally take con rods off the other crank too but make sure everything is marked as to where it came from, you have a real mix of con rods there probably repaired before with odd bits. the other crank may have all non stretch bolts. You can't reuse stretch bolts with long threads.

Sorry for the numpty question, Paul. Please explain this? Gear ring is -5. Why suggest -6? Perhaps to do with wear or 'lash'.....whatever that means.
If l replace camshaft gear ring like for like, will it mesh with crank ring without issue?
