All petrol T25 drivers should carry one at all times ... same as the accelerator cable AND as we found last weekend an ignition switch.

Well blind me! I tested coil. Changed ignition amp for known good used and bought a new spare. New leads. 6 month old rotor cleaned. Cleaned out dizzy cap and checked for spark and all good.
Got five miles down road and same symptoms. Just cuts out. Non starter this time. So towed back to Maxine's place.
Next day tested circuit and starts fine. Put loads of spares on board and head off for Margate sixty miles away. Mostly fast roads apart for final eight miles.
Running absolutely...o bugger! ........until 4 miles from home. Dead by side of road.
Check for spark up to dizzy cap. Fine. Changed newish rotor arm for brand new Beru and up she fire. And since no problem whatsoever. Praise the Lord!
In hindsight l recall having a similar problem two years ago with another van. Then l was running a rev limited rotor. Local garage. Kent VW..great firm...gave me free advice, that is junk it and fit a normal rotor instead.
I seemed to have cornered the market in dodgy rotor.
So which is best make for our campers. Bosch, Beru, Champion?

Do the lights come on when it won't start but only the sidelights and no headlights ? If so the symptoms match my faulty ignition switch. No turning over, nothing … then mysteriously comes back to life.

Ian

Everything normal apart from not firing engine.

I cant believe how much time l spent sorting this..all for a poxy faulty rotor. Will keep a new spare on board in future. I really should have known.

Is it me? Or is it LPG eats leads, dizzy's and rotors at a rapid rate?

LPG just shows up a weak ignition before petrol does because it needs a stronger spark.

If you remember my list of spares to carry at all times the last set of known-good cap, arm, leads and plugs are on it.

Stu, does sound like a breaking down Hall Sender as the symptoms seem the same as why I had on mine. Van would start fine and may do a long or short journey before conking out and not starting. Eventually conked out and got to the point where it just wouldn’t start and had to call AA out.

Chap had a spark plug tester and found that sometimes it was sparking fine and then there was nothing (i literally changed all the electrical components bar the dizzy).

I put in another dizzy and van has been fine since - you should’ve given me a shout mate as you were only in Swanley and I have a spare dizzy you could have used.

Cheers Justin :ok

I have a spare dizzy thanks. But around the time of postings l was up a mast in Chichester marina, freezing my cobblers off, and waiting for a real radar expert to do a bit of wiring.

It was only the camper in Swanley. Not me. I borrowed a Suzuki jeep from a relative...what a dreadful bone shaker...and scampered south for a few days.

To cheer me up l bought a 2003 Honda 600 Hornet to replace the nicked GSF. It was for sale just down the road in Swanley....l past it when being towed by recovery services. At £1200 l coukdnt say no. Great fun bike...what an engine  ! It rocks :ok

Sounds like there was a reason for the breaking down mate! Glad you’ve got the bike sorted now, Hornet’s are great bikes and at £1200, sounds like a bargain to me :ok
