Automatic Transmission fluid Cooler Kit

Post by Sir Brixalot »

My van's been in the garage for weeks. Auto box has been repaired twice but the garage has again found metal in it. They say the metal isn't coming from the box and the torque converter has been already rebuilt and gone off again for a check-up, due back tomorrow. They've checked the diff and say its OK. They think the only thing left that could be the source of the metal is the ATF Cooler. Go Westy do one but it'll take another 3-4 week to get here and costs £480. Been trying German Ebay but nothing turning up but I might not be using correct search terms so it would be good if anyone German speaking could point me in the right direction.

I'd be really grateful if anyone who's put a kit together could itemise it for me so that I can buy the parts and have the garage fit it

Need the van back on the road sooner as Christmas is coming

Looking around - the Derale 13011 fluid control thermostat looks right-do you know which one you've got Rob?
Apart from that, it looks like I need a dual pass transmission cooler and pipework.

I read somewhere that up until '84 the autos didn't have trans coolers at all. I wonder if it could just be blocked off over winter while I get the parts together

All I can tell you is that the early cooling system automatics have a different coolant bleed valve with an extra spigot on it because a member here was looking for one a few months ago.

Garage now saying that the rebuilt torque converted had broken up and they're looking around for a new core. It' s all taking a long time! To think all this started with taking the van to Harry Harpics for a seal. Expensive mistake

I bought all the parts from eBay and made my own
worked out about £100 using Aeroquip hose (I chickened out on Chinese hose)

was going to document fitting but reversed van over my phone at the start

Anyway was really simple and works great.

Rick

Perfect. Thanks a lot. If you still have the ebay item numbers for the metal fittings I'd be very grateful.

I've seen it mentioned on Samba that t4 torque converter works on T25 they don't seem easy to find either though. Anyone know if it is correct that T4 TC fits?
