When you consider this
Taken from the wiki.
Cold idle 45-70 psi
Cold 2000 rpm 50-70 psi
Cold 4000 rpm 50-70 psi
Hot Idle 8-15 psi (8 getting a bit low!)
Hot 2000 15-35 psi
Hot 4000 30-45 psi
My new(er) engine has good pressures
50-65 psi cold
10 idle (hot)
25 @ 2500
39 @ 3600
What I find odd is that the old engine was 5 psi better
Yet sounded noisier.
How do you suspect the oil pump rather than the bearings?

Re: Oil pressure
Don't worry about it, too many other factors to influence 5psi difference.

There is indeed.
If the OP guage wasn't in the cab I wouldn't have posted this.

noise can be tappets and valve guides worn as well as piston slap

Slugbelly fitted an OP gauge in his camper ... spent 3 weeks frightening himself stupid and losing sleep at nights so he covered it up again.

Re: Oil pressure
Done a few, gets around the sealing problems and thick gasket/excessive end-float problem) but its a bit of an overkill without a decent cooler: a bigger pump just works the oil harder and costs you hp as well as heating it up faster, leading to lower pressures once hot...kevtherev wrote:I see Marco makes a 30mm triple o ring pump

26mm is quite adequate with a cooler (not the oil/water interwarmer)
FYI the wbx6 uses a 30mm pump to feed 4 more tappets, two more big ends and another main bearing.

Re: Oil pressure
I have to say fitting an oil cooler is one method I would like to persue.
It seems logical, and far less intrusive.
There's even room for the thermostatic take off at the filter.
Thanks Ian.

Re: Oil pressure
couldn't agree more.. take a holistic approach chap.
First silly 1.9TD diesel I built (over ten years ago) I drove to the pressure and temp of oil from gauges in the cab.. They ended up being named the "worry gauges"
