Tweaking 1st gear adjustment

Post by mshaw1980 »

Hello

So been ironing out a few teething problems in my van (must update my restoration post) and the main annoyance I have is still first gear. Sometimes it goes in fine and sometimes not. You can tell it's not fully engaged when the van just crawls forward. Have to clutch down give it a push down and hard pull back and it will them generally go in. All other gears go in and out perfect (linkage fully rebuilt) it's just first that is causing annoyance at junctions. Any tips on perfect adjustment point for first gear as been trying for a while now

I had this after my engine transplant.
Firstly I had to seat the gbox selector ball/cup boot properly and make sure the bellows did not interfere with the shaft travel.
Making sure I positioned the shaft bush carrier at the front of the gbox.
I allowed the carrier to set itself by selecting first gear,
then loosening all the shaft carrier bolts at the gbox.
Selecting 1st a few times.
The tightening the bush retainer first, then the carrier with constant gear selection.
Seemed to work for me

I assume you can select first easily by moving the arm by hand

Hi Kev

That's a good idea selecting first with bush carrier bolts loosened. Will try that one. Yes goes in first fine when I select it at the gearbox.

:ok

I am in your debt kev. Did what you suggested and had my first drive without any 1st gear selection issues. All other gears good too! :ok
