Re: Rebuild Thread (Probably)
Thanks so much Paul. It looks as if I may get away with this one for now. The Haynes manual says it must be replaced if it's less than 1mm from the face to the tops of the rivets. I'm at 2.8mm so it may not have many miles on since the last change. Good link for the future though...

Re: Rebuild Thread (Probably)
2.8mm is more than Paul's new Sacks one at 2mm

The rivet type is like the clutch on the right rather than the one on the left. The depth to the rivet head is 2.9mm and it is 1.5mm to the 'tail'. Either way I'm above the Haynes manual wear limit of 1mm and as it's going to be a low mileage leisure vehicle I might leave it for now...

Re: Rebuild Thread (Probably)
It might be my eyes but when you look at the starred side of the rivet, though serviceable, there looks to be less than 1.5mm.
Did you measure on the edge or the centre ? - I suggest you double check both again

I know what you mean but I tried to find the high point of the starred side. I checked a few times and locations and the average was 1.5 mm. There is some buildup of dust on the rivets that makes it difficult to see the depth.937carrera wrote:It might be my eyes but when you look at the starred side of the rivet, though serviceable, there looks to be less than 1.5mm.

OK, it's the minimum that matters

Re: Rebuild Thread (Probably)
Thanks Carrera. The minimum I could find was about 1.4mm. It's hard to catch the high-point of the starred end.937carrera wrote:OK, it's the minimum that matters

Re: Rebuild Thread (Probably)
What’s the lower female thread beside the oil pump for on a late DG? I replaced the black pressure switch with the orange from my early case so that it would be compatible with the early oil pressure alarm design. Should Iplug it with a bolt before I fit pipe work?

Re: Rebuild Thread (Probably)
The thread below the oil pressure sender is to hold the engine in the van, you will be needing it
you can't put a low oil pressure switch in the high pressure switch location, pressure will be higher here so it won't trigger correctly

Re: Rebuild Thread (Probably)
If it's an early chassis without DOPS then any pressure switch will do in there as all it will do is stop oil leaking out, there's no electrical connection.
It's the one between the pushrod tubes that controls the basic red oil warning light on the dash, that's always wired up

Ah, that explains why a pressure sender wouldn't fit in it!itchyfeet wrote:The thread below the oil pressure sender is to hold the engine in the van, you will be needing it

Ok thanks carrera, I didn't spot the sender between the tubes until you mentioned it.
The one between the tubes on the (late) new engine is black whereas the one in the same location in my early DG was orange. Does anyone know, should I replace the black sender with the original orange sender?

Re: Rebuild Thread (Probably)
And another stupid question: What way does the engine rotate when viewed from the pully end? I want to set my tappets tomorrow but can't remember which way it rotates.
