So any ethanol that got through that inner layer would cause the outer to deteriorate rapidly - that was my thinking at the time. It seemed to be borne out by people cutting open their externally cracked hoses and finding the inner had no cracks.
Simon put a lot of effort into sourcing the correct spec hose to cope with the ethanol and I would stick with using that having had supposedly good hose cracking on the boat engine in a few months and that is diesel!
I am using Lloyds marine grade now for my heaters as the specs for that are higher than R7.( I would use R11 if I could find a supply at the correct bore and not needing a mortgage :D )

UPDATE
I have now gone over to Gates Barricade hose (£70 for 25 ft of 3/16" - 4.8mm ID ) for my heaters - it is better than R14:

Easily complies with CARB and other environmental standards. It exceeds the requirements of SAE J30R14T2*
Aramid reinforcement spiral braid for superior burst strength
Works with multiple fuels: approved for use with leaded and unleaded petrol, diesel, biodiesel up to B-100, E-10, E-15, E-85, 100% methanol, ethanol and gasohol fuels
Best-in-class working pressure of 1.55 MPa (15.5 kg/cm²) and a temperature range of -40°C to 125°C continuous, up to 150°C intermittent

Yeah l know! And appreciate your kind words Justin :ok
He is a bit of a legend. We went sailing last weekend from Chichester to IOW on my sister's yacht. I had to ask him to hold back on the Scotch pouring! :run I couldn't keep up with him. Guess I'm a bit of a lightweight. He eats and drinks as if he's mid forties.
Got an uncle living in Blackheath....his brother.... now in his mid 90's. He is the same. An Arnhem veteran and still taking regular cruises to the Carribean. Guess l looking forward to a long and enjoyable life. :ok
