1st gear dog leg selection
What is the technique for the above as I have been struggling to get it in to 1st? Sometimes it goes in but most of the time it's only part in and so the van crawls forward, not good at lights or junctions. Had a VW t2 / t3 specialist over here check my gear adjustment and he said it's great, much better than his doka. I can find all gears fine but 1st is a struggle. He told me push down then pull back but not to 'fight' it in as I was almost lifting the stick then pulling back. Tried his suggestion and it is better but still struggling. Is it worth adjusting the shift rod mounting on the gearbox as the spline joint appears fine?

For first, into neutral, push to the far left, then pull back for first
For reverse, into neutral, bush to the far left, push down on the gear lever and then push forward.
Hope that helps
