Odd oil pressure warning behaviour

Post by mocoso »

The oil pressure warning light and buzzer are behaving a little unusually on my T25.

Once the engine warms up the oil pressure warning light and buzzer come on if I spend more than a few seconds with the engine revs between 1600 and 2200. The warning buzzer and light will then stop if I increase the revs above 2200 it will stop.

The temperature is fine as are oil levels (and there appear to be no leaks).

I have recently had the sensor replaced as part of replacing the old engine with a reconditioned JX.

Any suggestions for what might be going on welcomed.

Thanks

Best to get the actual oil pressure checked first.

Some suggestions.

Engine may be rubbish. Hopefully not!

Incorrect grade of oil.(15w40 is what it should be)

High oil pressure switch(by oil filter) may be poor quality /inaccurate.

High pressure switch may be wrong rating.( should be the grey one) to be sure it needs to be removed to see the markings on the back which I believe should be .9 - 1.05 bar)

Hope that helps.

Higher revs enable the oil pump to satisfy the low oil pressure light/buzzer, it’s at low revs where low oil pressure usually show up first.

Be careful, we're talking a JX oil-burner here, not a wbxer

Yes I saw that it is a jx,that’s the engine I know/have. Have I said anything missleading or wrong?

Sounds to me like the DOPS system is working correctly and warning you that oil pressure is low just around the activation point of 2000 rpm. Then when the revs go above 2200 the additional flow improves the pressure beyond the high switch activation point

https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/brickwerks ... -switches/

You need to identify if it's a real warning or a sender problem, two things to do

1. Have a look at the colour code for the high sender. If it's now black (1.4 bar), maybe you had a grey (0.9 bar) one before and you are getting a warning that you weren't getting before . Easy visual check.

2. Get the oil pressure checked, ideally with an oil temp being measured as well, see what pressure you are getting at idle, 2000 rpm and 2500 rpm when the oil is at 80+ degrees C. You will need he equipment or get your garage to check for you.

Brickwerks say later jx engine has .9 or 1.4 bar high pressure switch so your newly reconditioned engine should be able to also satisfy the 1.4 bar switch I would think.

Also dependant on the switch being a good one.

Which is why you need to get the pressure checked
