engine bearings
Hi All
I am trying to rebuild a water boxer engine , it is the earlier type I think as the bearing set up is of the single thrust bearing set up . it has a blue dot crank which measures 0.25mm under standard . I am trying to get bearings for it and I can find 0.25mm u.s bearings but they are all for a standard case , which is where I run into a problem . my case is 0.5mm oversize and no-one seems to have bearings the same size as the bearings that came out of my engine . has anyone out there come across this problem ? has any one got any advice for me ? I am new to all this and could really do with some helpfull advice.

Re: engine bearings
Yes seen this before, some cases line bored and then bearings are hard to get or maybe impossible to get.
Perhaps your main bearings are not badly worn and can be reused?
If you are on Farcebook worth joining VW T3 Vanagon WBX Waterboxer Wasserboxer Engines
there is a more international crowd on there and somebody in USA may be able to find them, they love these engines over the pond.

Re: engine bearings
Can you get 0.5 oversize case and standard crank?
Standard cranks are easy to find as people are making later cases into 2.1s

Re: engine bearings
Have you checked with VWHeratige about VW classic parts to see if there are any 0.5 oversize bearings with any crank size?

Re: engine bearings
I've been searching the Kolbenschmidt website, they only seem to list undersize crank, standard case bearings, all three in more accessible form here, with stock levels https://e-shop.eoltas.lt/index.php?lang ... #autobegin

it seems line boring was more common in europe so you might look over la manche
just had a look on VW catalogue and can't see them so must be aftermarket , if not made by KS maybe by Mahle?
Somebody must have made them in the past as you have a case with some in.

Re: engine bearings
Manufacturer details used to be stamped into the case side of the bearings, any hints there ?
