gearbox oil question
My gearbox whines in 3rd, 4th and 5th. I know it needs reconditioning, really, as it has most likely done nearly 300,000km without major work: but in the meantime, is there an oil viscosity that will quieten it? I was thinking 75W-140 ... but may be being misled by drunken internet reading. Any thoughts?

Re: gearbox oil question
In a word, no. Heavier oil will just make it run hotter and make things worse.

Ok thanks, thought as much really. Pension pot raid imminent then, for gearbox rebuild.
