Acelerator Pedal. So many holes to choose from.
I've removed my accelerator pedal as part of my full strip down of the van (1982 CU) and there are quite a few holes in the floor.
I don't think the pedal was in it's original position either, and definitely not the correct fittings (silver bits).
The hole that the lever passes through it also bent along one edge. Not sure why.
And the bolt that sticks up through the floor holds the U shaped pivot on the underside. Is that how it should be?
The usual manuals don't show that part.
The floor is going to be repaired and I want to get rid of the holes that aren't required.
This is how it looked before I removed it.
36 years of bodging it.
Cheers,
Andy.

So, does anyone have a picture of how the pedal should be fitted so I can compare it with what I have?
And also a picture of the lever/linkage on the underside would be nice too.

Think mine looks somewhat worse than yours!
I've got washers, rust and bolts!

Thanks for the photos Highroller, they help with the pedal location, but now shows that the bolt I have at the top of the pedal is not meant to be there.
On my van this is what holds the pedal linkage. The manuals don’t show this bit.
Anyone, is the pivot point welded to the floor originally?

Isn’t the pedal all plastic? The picture shows holes in the pedal pivot point so maybe it was always pop riveted or bolted. Changed mine a while back. PO had attached the pedal to a hinge and bolted the hinge to the floor. I bought a new pedal and the pivot point doesn’t look like it will last too long.

Is the new pedal you have made by VW, if it isn't it will fail quickly. The original vw pedals last a very long time, out living the van sometimes. Brickwerks stock the vw pedal in the throttle cable section and remark how the hinge on the alternative brands are weak.Jonnyb416 wrote:Isn’t the pedal all plastic? Sorry for the confusion. The pivot point I’m on about is for the linkage under the floor. Shown here as item 3a.
Mine is bolted with an M8. I was wondering how it should be attached and its original position.

And... the cover, item 4 in the above image, mine is missing, but the parts list only show numbers for a lhd vans. Should I have one fitted on my rhd CU?

Re: Acelerator Pedal. So many holes to choose from.
Thanks multisi,
So there is no cover at all for rhd?
Just a hole in the floor?
Do anyone know why lhd needs one and rhd doesn’t?

Re: Acelerator Pedal. So many holes to choose from.
It must be the position its in , on the lhd the pedal position is near the middle of the floor and easy to access, the position for rhd isn't so easy to get at, taking out the indicator lamp helps.
