Re: No clutch suddenly
Have given up. No options left other than angle grinding drum. Two bad gashes to show for it. Too much work. As for backplate - least of my worries right now
Time is no longer on my side.
Incidentally, brake backplates are only £23 at Machine7 - less than a mile from me

Re: No clutch suddenly
After large cup of tea, perhaps easiest route is undo hub nut and pull drum and hub off in one go then knock hub out once its off. I could change backplate while I'm at it.

Re: No clutch suddenly
Twice I've typed / edited that out twice and cancelled the posting So deep into the thread I was just focussed on the brake issue, so I'm going to type something now and just wait for the flak regardless.
Why are you even taking the wheels / drums off. Gearbox out only needs the inner CV bolts, engine bolts ,linkage & gearbox mounts undoing doesn't it ?

Re: No clutch suddenly
Because.....I don't think it has anything to do with gearbox/clutch. Rear wheel cylinder failed, level in resevoir fell, killing clutch.
So, replace cylinder, bleed brakes, bleed clutch, all should be well.

Re: No clutch suddenly
Aaah, forgot about that bit too, I'll go back to sleep
Sorry, I wish I had mentioned putting the wheel back on and removing the hub when I first thought of it.

Re: No clutch suddenly
Tis only a hunch but I have to start somewhere and brake cylinder a priority before looking at clutch. Fairly sure clutch will come back as part of the process - ONCE I can get inside brake drum
Theres a slow steady drip from wheel cylinder at mo so having to top up at dash until I can replace it. Would love to do both sides at same time but need to be away Thursday.

Re: No clutch suddenly
Can you clamp the flexy pipe for that corner to stop the leak & keep the bleeding easy ?

Re: No clutch suddenly
Tis only slight. Clamping ok on new-ish hose but always a risk it will split hose on an older one.

I don't like clamping, I had a flexi hose once that started to work like a one way valve ( brakes would stay on slightly for a few seconds afetr pressing pedal) was probably clamped and the inside damaged.

Re: No clutch suddenly
Down to Machine7 as soon as they opened Mainly T1 & T2 parts but they're increasingly carrying more T25 stuff. The fact they had the backplates surprised me. Helpful and chatty guy on the counter. Must use them more as I could almost walk there from my house. Half the price of GSF - for same part.

Re: No clutch suddenly
One of the brake back plates - two coats of stove paint and baked in the oven for 30 mins
