Scarey...
I only dare 18 in my bug, though plenty of people retard the hell out of them and head towards 30psi

Re: JX not boosting and haemorrhageing oil :-(
I got chance to check the intake system last night.
I took the filter housing out and pulled the snorkel out. It didn't take long to see that both the top end, and the bottom end had collapsed in on themselves, almost completely at the top! A quick test without the snorkel ( now binned!) and the whole engine feels a lot less restricted. I'd backed off the wastegate adjustment spring at some point last week, so it wasn't until I opened up the new bleed valve, that it started to really shine.
Good call RogerT
So, a bit of an oil & filter change tomorrow, but the main issues have been sorted. It was coincidence that I lost power AND started leaking ( unless strangling the engine caused the oil leak )
Thanks for the help guys.

Too much credit, a lucky call is all it was. All your talk of psi meant nowt to me!
So, fine vehicles as VWs are, I just don’t think a cardboard tube had a designed service life of 30 odd years. BW do a silicone one.
