New upper wishbone suspension bushing squeak / creak

Post by henryc »

Hello gurus,

We've recently replaced the upper wishbone bushings on our T25. For the first few days it was perfect and silent, however the passenger side front bushing has started to creak / squeak very loudly. I know it's that bushing as I can feel it if I touch that nut (ha) and rock the van.

We took it back to the mechanic, as I thought maybe the nut had come loose but it was as tight as we can could get it. Interestingly if we slacken off the nut the squeaking disappears. The mechanic reckoned it wasn't safe to have it that loose though, so we have tightened it back up for now and have turned the stereo up.

Anyway, it has us stumped and the only thing we can think to do is to replace that bushing again. Thought I'd call upon your collective wisdom before I do this though.

Many thanks!

Hmmm. We don't call them justkrappers for no reason.I believe there are Chinese rubbish Febi Bilstein ones out there. Brickwerks is a far better place to buy parts from. They only sell tried and tested parts.I suggest if you do replace the ones you have had fitted, you buy your next ones from them. (And no I'm not on a commision) :) Your mechanic did spot weld yours didn't he?

balls! I had read that febi were good ones, so a bit annoyed about that...

I assume the bushes were spot welded, but I'll double check with the mechanic.

I've sprayed loads and loads of lubricant (silicone grease) which makes no difference at all to the noise. Also no noise coming from other bushes.

Are you suggesting we needed to buy these: https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/upper-wish ... thane.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for the help all!

Not suggesting you use those. I would if i could justify spending that sort of money.I had the cheaper ones from brickwerks fitted not long ago with no problems.

Mine did the same when i replaced them, didn't spot weld them and they crept round throwing the camber out. Welded them in and no more squeak/movement. If this is the case with yours you'll need to get the camber adjusted/set again as my guess is it will have moved and will now be negative as opposed to zero degrees

I bought the febi from Brickwerks for my pop top but was delivered Lemforder ( I assume they ran out of Febi)
quitet as a mouse
I Then bought Febi from Brickwerks for the Tintop and was deliveted Febi ( the cheek of it) they were fine for a while but have started creaking, notbing like before but audible at times.

I have not checked if my welding has failed but I doubt it.

similar mileage for both around 3000 miles

So as always you get what you pay for.

you can't leave the bolt loose as it sets the camber.
