Well, I'd call it a 12 point star socket, but I think it's officially a "triple square" / XZN fitting.

This might help https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_s ... ple-square

I'm pretty sure I have a set, bought "just in case". I have only ever used them once, on Vauxhall Vectra suspension. The equivalent bolt on a Saab 9-5 (virtually the same suspension) is a simple hex

Forget that, looking again it seems to be a flywheel bolt, in which case it's probably just a simple 12 point spline, they're used on Polos etc. That's the disadvantage of buying 6 point sockets to avoid rounding for most work.

:ok

I was so thrown by the fact that Itchy didn't know the answer I went off down a rabbit warren of unnecessary complication. I knew what I meant but that was no use at all to him

They're usually 9mm - 11mm as you found out

no these are not used on WBX, its a used engine for this which has lost compression on one cylinder, get engines so cheap not worth stripping it down.

engine came home in a T3 so kind of relevant and it's had a WBX in the back before :D

Ah yes, a mini Polo, otherwise known as a Lupo. At least I recognised what the bolt was from.

Looks like you'll almost be able to lift that engine out one handed :D

I'm going to have to watch out for subliminal messages in the reg plates then. :rofl

I thought the Lupo reg was too, Y being a good prefix, though if I look closely enough it's obvious the Tin Top on the left is a fake :P
