Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

Aircooled CU Heating Pods etc. What am I missing?

Post by Andyroo »

Working my way front to back stripping the van and I'm currently removing the heating cables when I discover that both cables have been cut.
Then I notice that after the heat exchangers and risers there is some plastic ducting that looks like drain pipe or something.

I need new heat exchangers and risers as the old ones are full of holes, and it's clear that the pods have been removed.
I found this image online which shows a bit about how it should look.

Because I don't have the correct old parts to refer to I'm not sure what is missing exactly, but surely plastic pipe so close to the heat exchangers can't be right?

Here is another image. I'll add some more in a reply.

Is the black pipe fitted with a jubilee clip to where the heater control pod should be the original part?

This how the pipes are originally, the red sleeves connect to the heater pods.

Thanks bigherb for another reply.
I've seen those flexy pipes on a site somewhere. Is it the same pipe for each side?
Also, what is inbetween these two pipes that channel them into one main duct then runs to the front? There must be some kind of 'Y' piece I'm guessing?

Neither the Haynes or Bentley manuals are much help in this area. They just have the same sketch of the heating system.

You have the collector above the gearbox that joins the two pipes.
The hoses are different lengths the right one is longer.
Try and get the original pipes as they are also a silencer to help stop engine noise coming up through the heating.

Thanks. I don't have any of that. :-(
You wouldn't happen to know the part numbers for the tubes or the connector do you?

What a star. Thanks again.
Did you have those numbers anyway or is there something online which I can use?

Hi George,
Thanks for that.

Hi Andy.
I do but some were quite pricy nos items. I think I paid £100 Or so for the collector box.
Haven't decided what to do with it yet.
I do have another collector box or at least part of.
I'll check condition and drop you a message later.
