Hello,
Well it has been a busy week with the end of term, and the arrival of visitors.
My school bus went back to the depot for his summer hols on Monday, so that the hard standing was clear
and with the kind help of Josh (and Nina), seen here changing disc brake pads, my engine went in and started without fuss..
I have now driven about 120km, and the motor performs well.
I shall be away on holiday soon, and will be able to give an assessment of the increase in performance/consumption
Here is the van on the terrace with his new silver rear screen..
Air-Cooled Bliss.....
Cordialement,
Stop smoking...

Re: Stop smoking...
Hello,
Well I have just got back from a 1000 km round trip to the Normandy coast.
A very brief summary:
Engine:
Same top and cruising speed.
much better flexibility between 3rd and 4 gears.
able to stay in 4th at all times on motorway.
about the same mpg, though I will do the calculation later, as I did several 'brim to brim' refills.
no oil topped up..
I will do a compression and oil pressure check later
Well worth the effort, I will now prep the next CT engine the same.
Indel fridge, (18 litres)
Amazing performance, on a run I managed to freeze beer and tomatoes..
The battery protection needs to be lowered, as it is too high at 12.6 volts under load.
It comes with a universal plug, which is a bit wobbly, so I'm replacing with my waterproof twist and lock type plug.
It fits perfectly between the 2 front seats, allowing access to the handbrake lever.
Ice cold beer at 32 c in the shade..
The solar films on top of front screen and at rear.
Much greater comfort driving in bright sunlight, no need to use the sun visors.
Visibility at the sides and rear, very good.
Heat reduction, the sun's impact is less, and is less piercing.
Air-Cooled Bliss..
Cordialement,
PS: The Rowlsey mirrors are sooo good..

Ah glad the 1000km trip went trouble-free, and was enjoyed with cold beer too!

Re: Stop smoking...
Hello,
Well it has been a while since my last post,
So the van has run really well all Summer..
First to Normandy, then to the 24hrs moped marathon..
]
where despite our traffic calming measures..
]
We only finished 17/70 due to pilot error..
There were less than 6 minutes between the 1st 10 places..
Then off to Andorra and Spain, 1400 kms in all,
Definitely ran slower at this altitude..
]
A couple of touristy shots..
]
Parked Arlé the moped with all the big boys at the Salvador Dali Museum..
]
Climbing out of the gorges..
]
Crossed back into Southern France and went to Toulouse..
With the noisiest camping municipale I have ever visited, I won't say it was right under the flight path, but as the plane banked you could see what they were having for breakfast....
I also visited 'my' footbridge built in 1997...
]
So.. as far as the engine goes, I am delighted, the van is much more driveable, 3rd gear is so much more flexible for cross country work,
and I can stay in 4th all the time on the motorway...
What is next.....well, I've bought a complete running CT engine and gearbox from Marseilles last week..
so maybe a full crankcase job, 1700 cc, lightened flywheel, maybe even twin solexes..
Sort of a CU wannabe....
For those that are interested, I have published the 1st part of the You Tube video...in HD no less..

I'm glad the engine is running as you expected John. I hope it wasn't you who was responsible for the pilot error. Nice pics too.

Re: Stop smoking...
I will send you the carb and the new bits I bought for it, when I have a moment. A re-build should keep you busy for about 10 minutes!
