OK, it should be connected to this port, there is a blanked off one on the right carb try swapping the vac pipe over and tell us the result.

bigherb....at the moment it is connected to the port you show in the picture. When i get to the van i will try changing it over to the other side. I presume i will have to blank off the port on the left hand carb as well?

Yes, should have a blank over it like this just swop sides.
