Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

It this where my oil leak comes from??

Post by crazyhorse »

Hi all,

quick question. Every morning I have a small oil leak from the sump. Sump is tight, but its trailing down from somewhere.

Its pretty annoying. Had a look today in the engine and saw a little puddle on the case.

On the right is a small hole with thread on, seems to have a little nipple in it or a stone?? Whatever it is I cant get it out. Could this be the cause??

I think I have finally sorted it...

It was coming out of the sump plug.

The sump has a M15 repair plug on it and I foolishly put a m16 washer on it  . Finally found a m15 washer and tightend it all good.

Anyone know where I can get more?? Its a wierd plug and I cant get a normal socket on it to torque up as I need a box spanner to tighten and loosen it. Its a 19mm socket, anyone have any suggestions where I can get a thin socket to go on it??

Put a socket on the other end of the box spanner then you can torque it up normally.

Right then chaps. some update....

Manager to torque the sump plug to 25nm, still leaking a few drops.

This is the kit the garage put on... m15

Imagesump by Crazy Horse, on Flickr

Emptied sump... as I got washers from the supplier (Laser) as the washers are quite rare.

Sill this though

Tightend nut a bit more but I dont want to go any further or ill be back to a wrecked thread. Any suggestions, a wider washer maybe?? Its not doing my mild OCD any good seeing a few drops every morning

Put a fibre washer on it

Copper needs too much clamping to seal

Hi Crazyhorse

I bought an assortment box off ebay which had one to fit mine (no idea what size mine was though as I just tried a couple till one fitted)

you can dremel then with small sanding drum though

I can't check box till Tuesday as I took it to work for My Boss's Fergie tractor.

Halfrauds may have some in a bubble pack of assorted ones.
