Sorry Rick but DO NOT USE A FIBRE WASHER

I stuipidly followed this advice years ago and lost my entire sump of oil on the M3 at 70mph

fibre washers won't hold a torque, use PTFE

ptfe is tape used in plumbing which seals threads get it from screwfix, B&Q or any plumbers merchant.

the reason it leaks is because it was not drilled and tapped square or because its not tight enough.

the mod is a bodge, if you cant get a socket on then it cant be torqued its not fot for purpose.

as said weld a nut on the plug and then torque to 25Nm if not you risk loosing the plug and your oil.

I would not risk anything but a copper washer and 25Nm

losing your sump oil is not fun.

ptfe does not affect torque

yes but one reel will last years that looks like 10 reels
you wrap it on the thread tight towards the washer end a few turns anticlockwise as you look from head end.

but first you need to get it to 25Nm the copper washer may seal itself with no ptfe.

25Nm is to stop it coming loose as much as to seal it.

Another alternative is a "dowty washer". Generally used for hydraulics and capable of sealing high pressures. Solved a problem on a new hydraulic lift when the original copper washers combined with PTFE tape failed to seal.

I have a bit of a concern about the temperature rating of the rubber, so you might need to see if there's a high temperature version.

Emptied oil today, left it to drain whilst I put a steering rack boot on... kept the rack on... my god 2 hours later I finally got it on. I invented new curse words in those 2 hours...

Anyway, put a new crush washer on, tightend the nut with a box spanner and socket, went to 25nm went a bit more.... stopped.

So far so good no drops....yet, though by now it would have leaked. Will check in the morning

Maybe the repair plug needed to be tighter than what I had... Haynes manual does say to go tighter if weeping. Dont want to strip it again
