Hi all,
I have an intermittent fault which may be an vapour lock in the fuel system. Van runs fine but after being parked sometimes when the engine is warm it won't start. There is a spark and it turns over but there is no fuel getting to the carb. Do the trick with the plastic bottle on the fuel feed pipe to the carb and no petrol is flowing with the engine turning over.
Stick some petrol straight into the top of the carb and it fires up ok. Is it a vapour lock and if it is is there anything I can do to prevent it occurring?
Its had a new fuel pump (and push rod), fuel lines, fuel tank, filters, carb rebuild by Roger at Bromyard VW.
Any ideas guys?
Cheers
Andy
Ps. Just had to rescue the wife and fix the van because it did it again tonight.

Is there fuel in the inlet hose to the pump?

Re: Fuel not reaching carb
Good point. Next time it does it I will check. The fuel filter after the tank was full of fuel.
I am wondering if I have a dodgy fuel pump.
Cheers

Re: Fuel not reaching carb
I don't buy this "vapour lock" thing that happened in the past.
In theory there should be more than enough fuel in the float bowl to start the vanl.
So with that.
1, There's not enough fuel in the bowl due to inadequate delivery.
This can be checked.
The pump should give good healthy squirts of fuel into a jug
2, mixture too weak
Any air leak into the induction side will weaken the mixture cauing a misfire poor start.
My money on the fuel delivery
.

Re: Fuel not reaching carb
Can we presume all of the gaskets were fitted under the pump?
And that the rod was checked for length before fitment?
