Air cooled CU 2.0 standard except electric fuel pump.

Hi all,
I've had this problem since owning my van but never been able to solve it, she starts on the button from cold but when it's hot and you leave it cool for 10mins it takes ages of cranking to start, but then when it does eventually fire up you can stop and start straight away without a problem. Tried no throttle, half throttle, full throttle, pump throttle but none of this makes a difference.. Since it will fire up time and time again once the bleedy thing had started I'm sure it's fuel related. There is plenty of fuel in the (new) tank and the fuel pump start noisy and goes quite suggesting that fuel has reached the float bowl. Any ideas since its been driving me mad

To much air in mix. Air leak from hose?

Sounds like fuel vapour lock to me, finding the cause will be the challenge as I have not heard of this in a T25 before - not to say that it has not happened before.

Yes it could be either.of those suggestions above.
Or
Float height (flooding)

Is this a twin carb ?
If so are they balanced.

Timing checked ok
Weak spark.

Timing all good, twin carb freshly balanced, Not check the float height, Originally I was thinking week spark, but because once it fires it will fire again with no problem I was drawn more to a fuel, vapour lock was my next line of research. I long to go on holiday with the thing but I'm too afraid :(

I had this problem with my first bus, it turned over but wouldn't fire up when hot, I came to the conclusion it was because the petrol was evaporating out of the carb. When I got it looked at the heat had melted the float on the valve in the carb.

Funny you mention this, yesterday after a long run I left the van settle for 15mins and returned to try and start it, I pulled to airbox of the top of the carbs and I noticed that fuel was dripping from the central venturi nozzle (I believe that to be the name!) slowly floored the throttle and left it open for a minute in order to try and let some of the fuel evaporate and she started lovely :D

So my next challenge is to find out why this is happening, I going to check the float level, check the fuel pressure and make sure that the float hasn't perished.

Seems to be that when I try and start it one side of the engine is flooded so it is taking ages to clear out the fuel before it will catch.

I'll be sure to report back my findings over the weekend!
