Help with my water works please.....

Post by chewbacca »

So I'm in the middle of swapping the 2 long water pipes that run down the bus.
I've discovered that they've been cut down in the past and "modified".
Cut a long story short, I'd like to check what connects to what.

Front of the bus, 2 connections on the rad. The lower one connects to plastic pipe running up the side of the rad, so I guess is actually the top hose. This hose has an elbow on it pointing upwards, if that helps.
The other hose connecting just above it goes straight onto the rad. I'm guessing this is actually the bottom hose.

Back of the bus, obviously 2 connections as well. First one is the top of the plastic thermostat housing. 2nd is onto a weird plastic distribution type thing.

So the question is, which hose on the rad should connect to which hose on the engine?

Thanks guys

Sounds like I have my answer via a mate.....

Water comes out the thermostat normally, so that should feed the bottom connection of the rad, which is actually the rad top hose.

Sound right? I'm never sure with these buses, always something trying to trip you up!

Thank you.

From that picture, it looks as though I had in/out the wrong way around for the rad. Good job I asked.

It also says it's in from the cylinder head, out to pump from the rad. I guess the feed from the cylinder head means the top of the thermostat?

If you still have the early system.

Thanks, but unfortunately I have a plastic thermostat housing with feed (or return maybe) to the rad.
The other side of the rad connects to a plastic distribution thing on the 'firewall' in the engine bay.

Diagram here suggests it's a feed back into the top of the thermostat
