Coolant fluid pipe to heater matrix leak

I have a vague recollection of reading somewhere that early (diesel?) vans had thier heater valve’s positioned above the floor. Brickwerks sell control cable for early diesels, maybe this supports my theory.maybe somebody can confirm or dispute this.
Do you have any sign of where your control cable end went to?
If you are replacing the valve and pipe work you may not want to put it back where it was originally.
