Hi All,
Ive got a non starting JX Engined Van at the moment .
After much worry and just as about to start checking compression etc I have found what i hope is the cause of my troubles , Fuel leak on the Fuel pump.
Looks like its coming from the cold start region as its pooling underneath that area.
Has anyone ever had this before or got experience of how to fix as i may otherwise be looking at a hefty cost in replacing the pump
any help greatly appreciated

Re: JX Engine Bosch Fuel pump leaky
It is just an O-ring seal there. It can be done in situ but isn't easy. Getting the lever off and removing the old seal is easy (reasonably) but once you have replaced the seal the difficulty is getting the lever back on and getting the nut started as the shaft goes inwards as you try to start the thread. I have done it successfully a couple of times and don't want to do it ever again.
Make sure that you block anywhere the nut may drop down with rags - you will drop it several times and make sure that you have an 'onion picker' grabber to retrieve it for when it gets past the rags.
No need for pump replacement for a fivepenny o-ring!

Thanks a lot Oldiebut goodie that sounds good to me!!
I've attached a photo. Is this the area you refer too?
You wouldn't happen to know where to order the seal. I see brickworks do a kit but that about £30 inc postage. Being scottish i would prefer just to buy whats required
thanks again
Scott
Update: Just bought a seal kit. cheers

That's the right area. The bottom yellow arrow is pointing to the only nut that needs removing. The lever just lifts off and the seal sits underneath it - there is no groove or anything else to retain the o-ring just the back of the lever. I just used an o-ring out of my stock of spares so can't remember what size it was.

And if you google “Bosch diesel injection pump rebuild” there is a scribd link on the first page that goes through a “vanagon” (JX) pump rebuild. Join free for a month and you can download it for use offline.

Re: JX Engine Bosch Fuel pump leaky
Brilliant info OldieGoldie. I was going to breenge in and remove the lever and the cover plate and for ease remove the pump
Thanks for the info regarding just to remove the lever. makes sense now as the cable attachment barrel that sits in the lever is at a bit of an angle and probably been acting on seal the wrong way for some time.
waiting for the seal and will do in-situ .
Thanks for vid info RodgerT going to come in very useful I suspect
Cheer for taking the time with words of wisdom much appreciated
