Air in the Fuel

Hi

I have a 1989 T3 Westfalia 1.6TD jx Engine code.

There are sign's of air in my fuel on both inlet and return pipes.

Any common places to start checking for air being sucked in.

Is it causing problems with starting/running? Could be the pump has a seal that's weeping allowing fuel to drain back/air in but first off check all the unions/clamps for any signs of weeping fuel and give all the fuel lines a good squeeze along full length, they may look fine but this should show up any leaks if/where perished. If the lines haven't been replaced in some time I'd go ahead and do it as a matter of course including the injector leak off pipes, along with new clamps, it's a cheap and easy job to do and would at least eliminate that part of the system.

If it still does it then i'd suspect pump has a worn seal allowing fuel to drain back/air in. Fit a hand primer bulb in the feed line as close to pump as possible, these have a one way valve which stops the fuel draining back (Euro car parts do one for around a tenner) Will keep you moving probably trouble free for ages (mines been in for 3 years now and no issues) and makes priming the circuit after any work far easier.
