Engine wouldn't idle, now it won't start

Was it a weak yellow spark or a good strong blue spark ?

Sounds like the timing is out with the backfire so I would recheck that using itchy's link - bear in mind that ignition timing shouldn't really move once set. Dry / clean the plugs as paperhouselad suggests.

If that doesn't work and the spark is good I would recheck the condition of the plugs to see if they are wet again and consider putting an eggcup of fuel directly into the top of the carb in case there's a fuel delivery / float level issue.

hi carrera its blue spark, so good news there, will be having another look at weekend, and putting some fuel in top of carb and see what happens, cheers for your advice, will let you know what happens

Great, one further thought, make sure you are timing number 1 cylinder on the compression stroke, it's in the itchy link, but easy to have a brain fade :roll:
