Hi all,

I thought I would ask you wonderful lot with this.

Van has been going well, then today after about 20 mins of driving around I suddenly lost power.. it was still moving but very slowly, engine stated vibrating, and occasionally would backfire.
An example would be Im going up a hill in second, foot halfway down on pedal and it feels like its missing, then all of a sudden without moving foot it would jump into life.

Made the 30 mile trip home just.

Any ideas?? I know it could be anything. So I have orderd a new rotor arm and distrubutor as these were the chepeast, or am I completley off the mark here. Could it be Sparkplugs, coil.

Want to give this a go myslef with hopefully help from you lot before I go up the road to the garage.

As a footnote it happens in both Petrol and on LPG

It could be running on both fuels. Try it on petrol with the LPG switched off completely. The switch over solenoid can fail, fairly common.

Thanks Sir Brix, will try that first thing tom. And heres me thinking my only problem was water in the footwell, which I was going to ask about before this issue

Backfiring, regardless of fuel occurs because it is running rich, too much fuel left in the chamber after the stroke. Easy fix - adjust your timing with a strobe.

Thanks, will have to take it to Garage for that, no strobe and ultimatley no clue with that one.

Will change Plugs, rotor arm and distrubutor first and then take it up the road

OOI how would it suddenly start running rich and backfiring?

Vac leak...fuel filter...?

I wouldn't start messing with the timing unless the distributor clamp is loose, if you mask the problem things start to get awkward.

Have orderd new plugs (WR7DC+ SUPER PLUS Spark Plug), rotor arm and distrubutor. (did have the one with the black shield, have ordered one without).

Will fit when they arrive and report back....

Had a look about..

Took an age to start today, but still as the other day? Running rough, ide rough, went for a drive, not good at all. Will wait for parts and see if this does anything... not feeling too confident.

Had a look at Air filter... some oil in the bottom off this?? This is going bad to worse

When it's running have you sprayed carb cleaner etc around the carb' inlet manifold. Just a thought, did this on mine when i had similar symptoms and it revealed a goosed gasket. As soon as i sprayed around the suspect area the engine perked up and ran smoothly.

was going to do that tomorrow, havent got carb cleaner, will WD40 do?? Do I take Pancake off and spary down there?? Can I do same for dizzy??

Yes, around the base of the carb' and then to the left and right to spray around the inlet manifolds, this was where my air leak was.
