Thanks
really should just drop the tank but with two vans there is so much else to do I'm not looking for extra work right now, think I will wait until the tank is low then have a stab without dropping it, if it fails I can drop it and fit new pipes.

Re: Fuel smell, vent tanks and valves
Mine smells of fuel too.
This seems like a design flaw to me.
The fuel breathers have to vent both ways so you'll always get some fuel smells. Most cars vent to the air intakes so you don't smell it but the hoses would be pretty damm long to do that on our vans.
My pipes from the top gravity valves are poked into the chassis rails and I can't see if they have trumpets on them.
I sealed a rust hole under the starter battery and that helped the smell in the cab but if either of us open a cab window we get fuel smells.
Maybe running longer breather hoses further back would help or putting charcoal filters on the breather ends.

my pop top doesn't smell but it doesn't have fridge vents cut into the floor so its not a good comparison.

Found this on "the samba"
might help us.
Part of the American emissions control stuff.
E D I T- although, thinking about it, you might need to run a line to the air filter so the fumes are drawn through and the charcoal gets cleaned and not clogged.
