Engine compression kit

Post by sarahandthebear »

So it's about time we test our compression in the engine and having never done it before I was looking online at the kits and found this one on eBay. Is this going to be good enough don't want to buy a cheap knock off and get faulty readings. It's about time the old engine was looked at she's a 1984 .1.9 DG petrol has 160.000 miles on the clock

How do you know this engine has done that?
Most will have been swapped or rebuilt.

VW wear limit is 8 bar with 3 bar variation but if you are that low you are in trouble.

Unless it's not running well, smoking or burning loads of oil I wouldn't bother. A bit like going to the doctors and asking them to find something wrong with you even though you feel fine.

You are right itchfeet we have no old paperwork saying about any swaps or services apart from the last couple of years. For all we know it could have been swapped out at some point it runs really well starts first time runs smooth was just on the motorway the other day traveling 65 no problems at all. drives really nicely really can't complain

I can't agree, if you find out you have low compression on a cylinder you can plan an engine swap / repair before it lets you down on holiday.
